WINS ANNUAL US PASTRY COMPETITION


Orlando, Fla. – March 3, 2014 – The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes is pleased to announce the resort’s own Pastry Chef Yoshikazu Kizu was awarded the coveted title of Pastry Chef of the Year at the 25th annual U.S. Pastry Competition on March 2, 2014. America's most prestigious pastry competition invites leading pastry chefs to showcase their talents by creating advanced dessert and chocolate recipes with technical sugar and chocolate sculpted showpieces. Chef Kizu’s highly technical film animation-themed showpiece depicting Beauty and the Beast earned him this title.


The U.S. Pastry Competition is hosted annually by Paris Gourmet, a specialty food importer and distributor. The event took place at the International Restaurant & Foodservice Show of New York on March 2, 2014 in New York City. Chef Kizu competed against twelve rising chefs for the title of Pastry Chef of the Year. Board members of the Société Culinaire Philanthropique, one of the oldest chef associations in the world, presided over the judging. The 21st annual International Restaurant & Foodservice Show of New York brought together thousands of foodservice, restaurant and hospitality professionals from New York State from Sunday, March 2 through Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City,


Grande Lakes Orlando, comprised of The Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott hotels, is home to an award-winning pastry team of thirty ladies and gentlemen. In addition to producing creative sweets, the resort has a commitment to sustainable cuisine, baking all of its bread in house and sourcing ingredients from the resort’s on-site Whisper Creek Farm. The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes will open a new three-meal-a-day restaurant, Highball & Harvest, in late summer 2014.


A native of Tokyo, Japan, Chef Kizu was a pastry chef with The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo before joining the ladies and gentlemen of Grande Lakes Orlando.
