JW Marriott Orlando, Grande Lakes Announces 2014 Series of JW Griffin Cooking School Classes


Orlando, FL – January 17, 2014 – The skilled chefs and culinary team of JW Marriott Orlando, Grande Lakes invite guests and locals alike to go behind the scenes and experience the culinary wonders of the JW Griffin Cooking School. The new 2014 weekend series of seasonal cooking school sessions, led by the resort’s premier tastemakers, offers participants the opportunity to work alongside the chefs to ask questions and learn the techniques and secrets behind their unique dishes. Class lessons announced for the January-through-June schedule kick off with healthy living on Saturday, January 25 and range from sushi-making and Mexican cooking to crafting a hearty brew.


JW Griffin Cooking School: January – June 2014 Schedule


Saturday, January 25 – Healthy Living
Start the New Year off right by learning how to cook and eat healthier. The JW Marriott Orlando culinary team will show participants how to make better choices when shopping and cooking, and share secrets on how to cut out fat. Vegetarian and vegan recipes will be shared as well as gluten-free and sugar-free options.
• $65 per person; includes a healthy lunch
• 10am – 1pm in PRIMO Restaurant


Saturday, February 15 – Sushi
Learn how to “roll” with the best from JW Marriott Orlando’s classically trained Sushi Chef. He will discuss what to look for when purchasing the best quality fish, how to make perfect sushi rice and teach several different types of rolls. He will also discuss different types of sake and how to pair it with sushi.
• $70 per person; includes a sushi lunch and sake tasting
• 1pm – 4pm in the Citrus Room at Citron Restaurant


Saturday, March 8 – Pizza
Learn the art of pizza making from the chefs in the award-winning Primo Restaurant. They will cover dough-making, pizza stretching, choosing creative seasonal toppings and how to make your own mozzarella for a perfect margarita pizza.
• $65 per person; includes a pizza lunch
• 10am – 1pm in PRIMO Restaurant


Saturday, May 10 – Mexican Cuisine
Participants learn how to cook authentic Mexican food. Chefs will teach how to make Beef Birria, a traditional stew served on holidays, Mole, a very popular sauce used throughout the country, as well as tortillas from scratch and more.
• $65 per person; includes a Mexican lunch
• 10am – 1pm in PRMO Restaurant


Saturday, June 14 – Beer Making
The resort’s brew masters will share the secrets to making simple and delicious beer. Perfect for Father’s Day!
• $55 per person; includes two bottles of finished product
• 10am – 1pm in PRIMO Restaurant
