Grande Lakes Orlando Green Practices

Grande Lakes Orlando has received Green Lodging Designation at the One Palm Level by the Florida Green Lodging Program. The FGLP program is an effort initiated by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to encourage the lodging industry to conserve and protect Florida’s natural resources.

Green Practices that are in place today:

Water Conservation:

  • Low Flush Toilets are used in all guestrooms and public areas
  • Water savers are used in all showers
  • Water restrictors are installed in sink faucets
  • Aqua-recycle water reuse system is used for all the laundry water needs
  • Daily water meter readings are taken to identify leaks or broken water lines
  • Reclaimed Water Distribution System being installed for our irrigation needs
  • Lawn watering reduced to two days a week only
  • Towel reuse program is offered for guests
  • Storm Water System is used to capture rainwater and then stored in the retention ponds where it is used for irrigation needs

Energy Efficiency:

  • Lighting
  • Compact Fluorescent Lamps are used in the guestrooms and corridors
  • All Conference Center area lighting has been changed out to lower wattage halogen bulbs
  • Photo sensors have been installed in all mechanical rooms
  • Energy Management Control Systems being used for lighting
  • All larger motors and equipment have VFD’s (they control motor speed, saves energy)


  • Cooling
  • High efficient chillers provide cooling for the buildings
  • Insulated Window Systems used throughout the resort
  • Additional window tinting has been installed in several areas
  • Property Energy Management System controls all heating and cooling equipment
  • All roof areas use a reflective roof coating system to reflect heat build up

Waste Reduction:

  • Cardboard recycling compactor being used for cardboard boxes
  • Single stream recycling compactor installed and being used
  • Recycling transfer stations have been installed property wide for back of the house use
  • Recycling trash can locations have been positioned throughout the property for guest use
  • Recycling training program has been implemented
  • Bulk purchasing practices being used
  • Ink and toner cartridges being recycled
  • Wood pallets being recycled

Clean Air Practices:

  • High efficiency air filters are being used in all HVAC Equipment. MERV 8’s
  • Win Track Preventive Maintenance Program used to ensure proper HVAC maintenance scheduling
  • All buildings are kept at a positive pressure. (HVAC)
  • Humidity is maintained at 55% or below (Prevents mold and mildew)
  • HVAC System and Water Features are inspected and tested by an independent environmental testing laboratory each year
  • Grande Lakes Buildings are smoke free
  • All exhaust fans vent to the outside and not within the buildings
  • Carbon Monoxide detectors and exhaust fans are computer controlled and located in all meeting spaces
  • No asbestos

Environmental practices:

  • The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Orlando, Grande Lakes - Golf Course has been designated as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary
  • Natural Habitats for wildlife are being created and maintained:

      • Fish Feedings
      • Butterfly Gardens
      • Nature Walks and Trails
      • Educational Eco-tours
      • Fishing operations maintain a catch and release fishery
      • Fishing and Eco-tours use human powered water craft
      • Birds of prey nesting areas
